What’s your connection to New England?
My parents are originally from New England, but they moved to Tennessee around the same time I was born. Their stories of growing up in New England, combined with our family vacations up here every year, always made me think it was the most magical place in the world. The day after I graduated college, I packed up my little car, drove north, and never looked back. New England hasn’t disappointed me yet. What does “New England style” means to you?
In a few words: classic, functional, timeless. The seasons really dictate a lot of style choices in New England, and although that sounds a bit restraining, I love that my life changes with the seasons. It really helps keep things from feeling stale. Every season you are almost forced to switch things up a bit — from home decor to fashion — and then you get to discover all your favorite pieces again and again when the seasons change — as they always do.Who or what has most influenced your style?
I’ve always been drawn to a more timeless style in everything in life. I’m sure a lot of that comes from my family. My grandmother lives in this very old, very amazing farmhouse in Massachusetts that has been in our family for years. It’s worn and unchanged, yet has always been one of my favorite places in the world. It always felt like home. My grandmother’s approach to keeping a warm yet welcoming home is something that has definitely been passed down through my mom, then to me. She is also the person who inspired my love for photography (and golden retrievers!).
What does a typical week look like for you as an editorial stylist?
Every week is different and really depends on if I have a shoot that week. Those weeks tend to be a tad insane, between the sourcing and coordinating. Being an editorial stylist seems very glamorous on the outside, but it really is a lot of logistics and hauling of props. Although when you see a vision come to life, it’s so worth it. The other weeks are a lot of admin and logistics (and taking care of our little son, Henry). I also really try to make time to just get out and be inspired. You have a large and enthusiastic following on Instagram. What advice would you give to someone looking to grow their own feed as an influencer?
I don’t think there is trick per se when it comes to growing an audience. I think sharing what you love and staying true to your voice is the real key. I also feel lucky to live in a place that is so easy to photograph. We are really so fortunate here in New England to have so many beautiful places to capture right in our backyard.
